Scala is the oldest town on the Amalfi Coast, founded in the 4th century AD by Roman shipwreck survivors heading toward Constantinople. According to local tradition and the Chronicon Salernitanum, Roman travelers or shipwreck victims landed on the steep Lattari Mountains and settled the area. Its name, Scala, means "ladder" or "steps," inspired by the terraced, steep landscape.
According to Google, Mid-May on the Amalfi Coast features warm, pleasant spring weather with average daytime highs around 72°F to 75°F (22°C to 24°C) and cooler evenings dipping to about 58°F to 60°F (14°C to 16°C).
This will depend on your plans and how long you are staying in Italy. From an efficiency standpoint, we recommend flying into Naples and then it's about ~1 hr & 30 mins drive depending on which route you take. You may find the best pricing for flights going into Rome and it is a ~3.5 hr drive.
This is dependant again on how long you will be staying in Italy and what your vacation plans look like. We will advise driving along the Amalfi Coast is not for the faint of heart as it's lots of curves and narrow roads. If you rent a car, you will want to rent as small of a car as possible, and be sure to add coverage for scratches/damage. If you decide driving isn't for you, you can either hire car service to bring you from the airport to your accommodation or take public transportation (bus). We have yet to take the public transportation but have read online that it's a convenient way to get around as the bus stops in most towns. https://www.welcomepickups.com/naples/airport-to-amalfi/
A few rooms are still open in the hotel called Palazzo Pascal, this is where the reception will take place. As Scala is a small town, we recommend that guests stay in Scala on the day of the wedding for your convenience. Should accommodations in Scala reach full capacity, the nearest alternative town is Ravello, located an 8-minute drive away. On the travel page, we will list nearby hotels.
We reccomend you pack light as many accomodations do not have elevators. In addition the town square of Scala is all walking (no cars) with lots of cobblestone steps. Hotel accomodations may potentially be available to assist with your bags or you may be able to hire donkeys to move your bags. We will gather more info on the donkeys!
