The tagline above really should say, "First comes med school, seeing if we could help each other survive, then marriage!" Nick and I met in medical school at ETSU's Quillen College of Medicine. I am in the class above him, so the first time we ever interacted was in an anatomy lab as I led a tutoring session for him and a few of his classmates. I remember thinking that he was incredibly witty, hilarious, and handsome. He never came back to another one of my sessions--once we started dating though, he finally told me it was because he couldn't concentrate! :) Time went by and we would run into each other occasionally, either around school or when hanging out with our classmates. Then in the final two months of my dreary second year, I'm not quite sure what happened but we started studying together all the time. He would bring me coffee and keep me semi-sane by making me laugh even at the end of a 12 hour study day, and I would cook him good food. I have often told Nick that God put him in my life when I needed him most. It gave us something to look forward to every day, and we still feel that way--I'm so grateful that I get to share the joys and frustrations of medicine with him as we keep on keeping on!
