Things To Do

Shasta Caverns Visitor Center

Shasta Caverns Visitor Center

20359 Shasta Caverns Road, Lakehead, CA 96051

Lake Shasta Caverns is a geologic adventure for your whole family. You can explore Lake Shasta on a catamaran, where your captain will act as a guide and inform you about the geography, formation, and natural beauty of the caverns. Visit California's newest national natural landmark today! Beware! The tour does involve a somewhat surprising amount of stairs, but don't let that get in the way of seeing what might be the most impressive cave system you'll ever see in your whole life! Very well worth the trip if you ask us. We would recommend booking tickets in advance to secure a spot.

Castle Crags State Park

20022 Castle Creek Rd, Castella, CA

Please do your own research before embarking on your own Castle Crags adventure! This is a bit further of a drive. The Root Creek Trailhead is located at Vista Point within Castle Crags State Park. This is a peaceful path through the woods and offers a reward at the end – tumbling, beautiful Root Creek (easy). An additional 1-mile out-and-back beaten path continues up the south bank of Root Creek that leads to a seasonal cascade waterfall (moderate difficulty). The entire trail is shaded and presents opportunities to view some of the park’s many varieties of wildflowers during spring and early summer. Dogs and bicycles are not permitted on this trail.

Shasta Dam

16349 Shasta Dam Boulevard, Shasta Lake, CA 96019

Shasta dam is one of the most impressive sights in Northern California and a fascinating piece of American engineering. It is the second tallest dam in the United States and holds back the largest reservoir in the entire state of California. The visitors center offers a free guided tour which will show you the inner workings of the dam. (Limited to 20 people per tour. Please visit the website for tour times and additional info.) There's also a vista near the visitor's center which offers an incredible view of the structure as well as a fantastic place to have a picnic. Come revel in the might of industry!
