Remember the summer of 2020? A decidedly weird moment to meet, but that's how it happened! We had recently friended each other on social media and spent the first month or so obsessively liking each other’s pet photos. We started chatting online, then talking on the phone, and finally considering whether we should meet in person. Bizarrely, we only lived about a mile away from each other but had never met before. We spent that summer walking Rocky, watching movies, and going for lots of coffee. Nick enlightened me about obscure 80s films, and I "tried to kill him" via a hiking adventure (his words). Some of those things have changed—RIP sweet Rocky but welcome to our two junior Boston Terriers!—but many others have remained the same. It was an unexpected gift to meet each other at that moment in time, and we’ve had a beautiful five years since that summer. There have been lots of adventures and silliness and love, and we're looking forward to all of those things in our future together.
We went down to visit Nick’s family, had a great dinner at the Knickerbocker Grill and headed to the Met to see Terence Blanchard’s opera Champion. It was a beautiful golden hour in the city, complete with blooming flowers and new NYU graduates milling around. We headed uptown, stepped out at the Met plaza, and Nick dropped to one knee to propose. I was so happy—and of course, predictably weird in the process—and a wonderful stranger ran up to us afterwards and shared the photo he had taken of us getting engaged. We called all our friends and family and shared champagne on the Met balcony, then spent the next ~ 3 hours enjoying a great opera (but also Nick’s watch blowing up the entire time with congratulations). We bought popsicles from a street vendor to share after the show, and of course most of mine fell into my purse and generally made a sticky mess. A perfectly memorable evening. We're thrilled to celebrate our wedding with you. See you in Potsdam in August!
