The Story of Nick and Elizabeth

"The Prophecy"

In 1981, James and Kelly Brown married on December 22nd. They had three boys: James, Ben, and Nick. In 1991, Thomas and Carol McGovern married on December 22nd. They had two boys and two girls: Quinn, Elizabeth, Patrick, and Grace. Nick was born September 6, 1995 in New Orleans. Elizabeth was born five months and one week later, February 13, 1996 in Phoenix. They met at Boston College within a few days after moving into their freshman dorm in August 2014. Elizabeth had family that studied at Boston College, and had certain "insider knowledge" about a program under Prof. Brian Braman called "Perspectives." Her cousin, Nick Cortezi, was Prof. Braman's teaching assistant. Nick Brown, on the other hand, accepted admission at Boston College and enrolled in the Perspectives program without knowing a thing. To put the rest of the story simply, they fell forever in love as best friends. In truth, Nick quickly fell in love with Elizabeth when they met at school their freshman year. While it took a long time to finally admit it out loud, Elizabeth always knew they would end up together. It was obvious and undeniable in the way he looked at her and the way she lit up around him. Elizabeth wasn't the only one who noticed it, and Nick wasn't the only one hoping it was true. Sophomore year passed, Junior year, Senior year. Nick dated other people. Elizabeth dated other people. But throughout the years, friends and strangers alike would question or even assume the pair were more than friends. Elizabeth's parents and siblings would wonder about the same. Elizabeth and Nick went separate ways after graduation from Boston College in 2018. Elizabeth moved back to Phoenix, and Nick moved back to New Orleans. The next year, Nick would start law school at Tulane while Elizabeth worked in Phoenix. For a while, it seemed that was that. The pair didn't speak for a long time, but always missed each other's sweet and easy company as life's complications picked up. Nick was at dinner with his family when he got a call from Elizabeth out of the blue. He answered. "Nick? Holy crap, I'm so happy you answered, I just have no one else to tell this to." There were so many things over the last five years she could only talk to Nick about. But the fact that Nick's college roommate invited her to play at an all-night benefit concert on a wild horse sanctuary in Santa Monica seemed like a pretty good excuse to call him. "Elizabeth? It's actually so good to hear from you." The pair kept in touch throughout 2019. Nick went through a break-up, and Elizabeth went through several. The first time they saw each other again after college was Mardi Gras 2020 in New Orleans - one of the nation's "super-spreader" events of the COVID pandemic. Once again, the questions started. "Does your girlfriend want a drink?" "Is this your girlfriend?" "How long have you been dating?" The pandemic barely had an effect on the rekindling of the love between Nick and Elizabeth. They shared hundreds of Facetime's for movie nights. They exchanged music and stories. Nick drove across the country twice to visit Elizabeth in the safest way possible. Her brother noted, "man, Nick's really 'putting in the miles...'" It wasn't until January 17, 2021 that Elizabeth nervously asked Nick if he still felt the same way. "Always," he said. They started dating and Elizabeth moved to New Orleans for law school that Summer. On November 12, 2023, at a candle-lit family dinner in the Browns' backyard, Nick made a toast to the Browns and the McGoverns, and asked if Elizabeth would marry him to "make this prophecy true." More than ten years after they met, Nick and Elizabeth are finally getting married on the same day both their parents got married - December 22nd. A date written in their stars since the beginning. We hope you will join us this December in New Orleans to witness this prophecy come true.
