The Proposal

10.5.2019

The element of surprise... Britta planned a trip to visit family in Illinois. Unfortunately, Nick "didn't have enough PTO" to join this time. She was bummed, but understood. At home, Britta felt a little odd - like she was out of the loop. She didn't think much of it though and enjoyed visiting and playing games with family. Pretty standard "home trip" so far. (She had no idea) Nick, now hiding in Genoa with his family, was so nervous he pretended he broke his phone just so he didn't have to talk to Britta without giving anything away. (She still had no idea) On Saturday, she planned to go with her parents to meet Adam and Aletha for lunch before shopping for trees for their yard. Pretty casual day, one would think! That morning, Britta's mom was acting strange...suggesting she paint her nails...not wear a sweatshirt... Odd! Oh well...make mom happy. Painted nails, check. Cute-ish outfit, check. Let's go shop for trees! (Still, no idea) At the winery, we followed Adam to the back patio. To Britta's surprise - NICK was there! Sitting ever so casually at a table by himself. Britta was so excited to see him and she ran across the patio to give him a giant hug, exclaiming "It's been almost THREE DAYS!". (STILL...she had no idea) Britta thought Nick being there WAS the surprise! He had found a way to sneak out for a portion of the trip, to spend time with her and her family. How sweet! He's a keeper. (Still no idea) Then, Nick dropped down to one knee. (now...she had an idea. She knew.) Before he could say a word, she jumped on him nodding her head. Yes!! He stood her back up, her legs felt like jello, he smiled, and simply asked "Will you marry me?" (YES!) Then cheering broke out behind them, everyone was there! Nick's family and Britta's - all together! We spent the rest of the weekend celebrating. There was a tiki bar, a bonfire in a teepee, a carbles tournament, and all of the Swedish pancakes you could eat. It was the happiest day imaginable - so far!
