On September 17th of 2019, we both decided to try out a new dating app - Facebook has dating?! Yes it does! We connected right away, basically the first match for both of us, and we met in person one week later for our first date. The first date led to a second and third, which led to us becoming "official" on October 10, 2019. Thank you, fb lol
Planning the proposal was like riding a rollercoaster with a loose seatbelt. My plan was to surprise Alexa, which is a tremendous feat if you believe her when she says that she has only been truly surprised once or twice in her life. It was hard to pass up proposing on our first dating anniversary, but my mission to surprise her weighed heavily on me. So, I decided to propose on the anniversary of our first date. We invited my sister and brother-in-law to go out to dinner (I made sure it was Alexa's idea), and I worked in secret on the best scenario to avoid suspicion. We invited them to our apartment for a drink before going to eat, and my brother-in-law expertly asked in a casual way if we could go up to the rooftop to see the sunset. Alexa had no idea I had rented the rooftop for the evening. On the way to the elevator, my sister slipped me the ring. We stepped out onto the rooftop, which was sprinkled with rose petals leading to a romantic scene of lanterns and fairy lights over a colorful rug. I stood there and told her how I felt before going down on one knee and popping the question. Alexa, who had only caught on once we had stepped foot on the rooftop, gave an excited yes and kissed me before I could even stand back up. My sister and her husband took photos and filmed the whole moment. Our parents, who were hiding on the other side of the rooftop, came out to celebrate us with champagne, cheese, cake, and lots of laughter. Mission accomplished!
