In Classical Greek legends, men are from the sun and women are from the earth. Originally joined together, people were split by the gods for being too powerful, fated to spend their lives looking for who they were split from - their soulmate. When soulmates are together, they belong to the moon; the celestial orb made of earth, and is seen as it reflects the sun.
While Shawna was on a trip in San Francisco, she got a “like” from Nick on Bumble. They chatted and had their first date at The Schoolhouse in downtown Arvada soon after. Early dates consisted of playing disc golf, ultimate frisbee, and Super Mario. They found they had a lot in common - both moved to Colorado from other states, like watching hockey, are family-oriented, love eating at Yummy Hot Pot, and think that horoscopes are probably an exercise in confirmation bias. Nick and Shawna really hit it off talking about politics and watching the circus of the 2020 election together. Nick realized that Shawna was something special when she attempted to bake his favorite cake for his birthday - angel food cake covered in chocolate frosting. Shawna knew that Nick was a keeper when she saw how much effort he took to recycle everything, even plastic bags from the grocery store! Soon, they admitted they were in love and after dating for a few years, Nick proposed!
The whole family was on vacation, and Nick knew that Shawna would love being proposed to on her birthday. He had already talked to her family and his, and decided this was the perfect time. He told the kids that morning so that they could photograph the event. Since it was her birthday, at dinner, he first gave her a birthday present: a necklace from the jewelry shop. Shawna thought something was up because she had picked out engagement ring designs at this shop. Then Nick got down on one knee and proposed. She said yes, kissed him and cried, and being so excited, she grabbed the ring and put it on herself. The kids took a lot of photos and Shawna and Nick happily told their family and friends - we’re engaged!
