In the spring of 2021, while the rest of the world was recovering from the Covid lockdowns, the Cal campus was still enforcing draconian social distancing protocols. It was a time full of memories marked by surgical masks and zoom calls. Despite the unprecedented nature of Cal’s first completely virtual year, our love story started like many other modern relationships; with a flirty DM. One fateful springtime evening brought together the fraternity boys of ADPhi and the sorority girls of ZTA. Corinne’s friend Rad, received a flirty DM from a guy named Himu. Himu asked Rad to go on a date with him. Rad wanted company for a first meet-up and brought Corinne along. Himu, wanting to make the evening more comfortable, asked his friend Ved to join and turned the meet-up into a double date. Ved, like many men who have laid eyes on Corinne, fell in love. They dated for a few months until Ved graduated and returned to his home in India. This was Nick’s first big break. Like Ved, Nick was also captivated by Corinne’s beauty. A beauty like hers was hard to resist. To make matters more complicated, Nick and Ved were fraternity brothers. Both men of the California chapter of the ADPhi fraternity. Nick would never make a move on another brother’s ex-girlfriend, but Nick’s patience was starting to pay off. Nick’s next big break came when Corinne’s friend, Kalvin, invited them to a party. The party itself would have been unremarkable had it not been a superspreader event. Kalvin and a number of other party attendees tested positive for COVID the day after the party. Corinne and Nick, both exposed, ended up quarantining together out of practical necessity. Call it luck, fate, or a Chinese villager eating an infected bat—whatever the reason, Nick’s fortune changed during that week they spent together. It was in that close proximity that the two fell in love. They began dating after graduation and moved to Long Beach together. Long Beach was a fun 6 months but they relocated back to the Bay Area when Nick began his career as a Berkeley Police Officer. They have been making memories in San Francisco for the last 3 years.
