Two Scots Tie the Knot

Nick and Zoë met (probably) sometime in August 2013 at Covenant College (almost 10 years ago!). Zoe remembers meeting him on her brother's hall, Borderlands. Nick recalls meeting "Danny's sister." Over time, they developed a friendship, though mostly in group settings. Fast forward to May 2015 when the two, along with twenty other Covenant students embarked to Indonesia for a month-long “Global Trends” course. Nick and Zoë's friendship truly blossomed on this trip. They bonded over writing papers, learning about a new culture (one of Zoë's greatest passions), and discovering that they have a very similar sense of humor. Nick claims he began to like Zoë at this point, but Zoë was none the wiser… The next semester, Zoë and Nick grew in their friendship taking classes together, playing music in the stairwell, sharing meals at the Borderlands table, laughing over “The Office” jokes, and taking intramural wiffleball way too seriously. Zoë began to develop feelings for Nick at this time, but wasn't sure what to do with them, as Nick was soon to graduate and Zoë was still a junior. In December of 2015, Zoë confessed her feelings to Nick and after much back and forth, Nick and Zoë decided to "spend more time together." For their first ever date, Nick took Zoë to a local coffee shop in Chattanooga, to see the band "HoneyHoney." After about six weeks, Nick and Zoë decided to end their relationship for the time being. This was very hard, but ultimately was part of the Lord's plan. Time passed. By 2017, Nick had moved back to Charlotte and Zoë was finishing her senior year at Covenant. A couple months before graduating however, as the Lord would have it, Zoë accepted a position that would also bring her to Charlotte. Once in the Queen City, she lived with Ann (Matron of Honor) and together, they learned to navigate life post-college. During this time, Nick and Zoë began to reforge their friendship even as they decided they wouldn't date. With new jobs to pour into and a wonderful new friend group forming, Nick and Zoë found things to be carefree and easy in that “mid-20-somethings” way. ...for about a year and a half anyways, until Nick confessed to Zoë, that contrary to their last discussion on the topic, he wasn’t quite over her yet. WHAT! This shocking revelation set in motion the rekindling of a relationship that they thought was lost. Zoë and Nick would go on to spend the next few years dating, figuring out and learning from each other’s differences, and eventually falling in love. After countless shared adventures in Charlotte and abroad, competing in a co-ed tennis league (in which they went 0-8), two Spikeball tournaments (in which they went 0-2 - okay maybe they should give up sanctioned sports), a multitude of Sunday mornings spent worshiping the Lord at Christ Central, too many stressful hours of Braves’ playoff games, date nights, talks about nothing, and talks about everything, they finally decided they couldn’t picture their lives without each other. On August 20, 2022, Nick asked Zoë to marry him. He shared about how he first realized that she was special on that Indonesia trip long ago. He talked about their journey and mentioned how when standing side-by-side, they “melt into something” (shout out to Jon Foreman of “Switchfoot”). After reiterating that he “wasn’t proposing” and that he had something special for her that “wasn't a ring,” he presented the most beautiful ring Zoë has ever seen and got down on one knee. He asked her to be his wife, and she said YES! That night, they celebrated with friends and family who were so keen to finally throw them this long-expected party. Our story is not a conventional one, but is truly a testament to the Lord’s kindness and faithfulness. The Lord is good and He can fulfill desires and promises years down the road from when He plants the seed. Thank you so much for your support along the way, and we are so excited to celebrate with you on July 1st in Atlanta!
