How We Met

02.14.2020

Despite not knowing anyone, I decided to pick up and move to Austin to start my career as as a NICU nurse. About two weeks after starting my new job, I met some girls that wanted to show me what downtown Austin was all about. On February 14th, 2020 my girlfriends wanted to celebrate Galentine’s day by going the bars on 6th street. We ended up at a double story indoor/outdoor bar called Buford's. That particular night, it was PACKED shoulder to shoulder full of singles celebrating Valentine's day. Towards the end of the night, I was in line at the bar upstairs ready to close my tab. In front of me was a man who was very easy on the eyes. He was tall, had a nice beard, a silver necklace, and a backwards hat on. I never saw his face, but I was hooked. I tapped on his shoulder and asked, “are you single?” He turned around, looked me up and down and said “why yes ma’am, I am”. We got to chatting, he had a cute laugh and a little southern drawl. By this point I was head over heels. Being the gentleman he is, he bought me a shot and asked me to Waltz in the middle of a club. Of course I had no clue how to Waltz, but this man was pulling out all his tricks. We exchanged numbers and the next day I got a text message. After a few days of chit-chat, I became distracted by my new job and decided it would be best to focus on my career. As I continued to meet new people in Austin, I met a girl named Hallie Schiaffo through my nurse residency program. I noticed that we had a mutual friend through social media, Nick Ianno. So, I inquired about him and how in the world Hallie knew him. Turns out, he was her boyfriend's best friend. I thought for sure these things only happened in Kansas where everybody knows everybody. I proceeded to tell her how we met and that he asked me to Waltz in the middle of a bar. She laughed and said that is exactly something Nick would do. After telling me countless stories about how nice of a guy he and his family were, I decided to send him a text to maybe get things moving again. To my surprise, he texted me back and later asked me on a date! Flash forward to March 17th, 2020 we went on our first date to dinner at Moonshine Grill. He was as sweet as I remembered. He drove over 30 minutes to pick me up, he opened the doors for me, walked on the side of the street for me, called me ma'am, paid for my dinner. I mean I was smitten. I knew after our first date that Hallie was right. He was one of the nicest men you will ever meet. We went on our first date the day before the world shut down from Covid. The following year of dating we had to get creative since restaurants, bars, and entertainment were all closed. We played many games of battleship with pieces of paper and cardboard boxes. Watched hundreds of hours worth of movies. Made many dinners together. We really got to know each other in a short amount of time all thanks to Covid. I truly believe that God brought me to Austin, Texas to meet the man of my dreams and start my career as a NICU nurse. Everything I had prayed for was falling into place. I could not thank God more for writing me the perfect love story and for bringing me the man I have always prayed for.
