While we have known each other since elementary school, we didn't become best friends until 2013 when we bonded over a deep love of coffee shops and great storytelling. I was the barista making lattes at the time and Colin was the storyteller, writing screenplays in the corner booth.
Fast forward seven years: Colin and I decided to make it official and designed a ring together. I had a hand in the ring but no idea when it would arrive, or how he would propose. During the wild year of 2020 (and a global pandemic), my favorite holiday was fast approaching and I couldn't wait to wear my Halloween costume - determined to do SOMETHING fun that day. Three days before Halloween, I got sick, and two days later Colin and I both tested positive for COVID-19. On my favorite day of the year, I was heartbroken that we couldn't dress up! We could see no one and we were quarantined to our house for fourteen days. On the night of Halloween, Colin suggested we play one of my favorite board games together in our living room and watch a scary movie (The Thing) - as I drew a card to take my turn, he suggested a different card that he slid across the table to me attached to a ring box. I could not have asked for a more perfect night.
