His Story: The Swipe

His Story: The SwipeHis Story: The Swipe

I remember being at work on a Friday (26th January 2024), busy distracted on Tinder, swiping away. I distinctly remember seeing Mylo’s profile and thinking what a hot chick. I swiped right hoping she would match me back. Luckily for me she did swipe for me and we got matched. We communicated throughout the day and during our conversations it came to light that Mylo would be going back to America in a couple of days. So I realized there and then that I had to meet her straight after work because I didn’t think there would be any other opportunities to meet.

First Meeting

So that's what happened. I picked her up at the location she sent me and we went to a local pub in Hemel Hempstead (the Crabtree). I don’t believe in love at first sight, but what I would say is when we first met it was definitely something special at first sight. I remember Mylo looking just as good as her photos online and the positive bubbly energy she had was unmatched to anything what I’ve experienced before on a 1st date.

Mylo Was Nicholette

Mylo Was NicholetteMylo Was Nicholette

Eventually I was told by Mylo that her name was actually Nicholette and she used Mylo as a cover name. Our date at the pub was short but sweet. As I told Mylo aka Nicholette beforehand, I had a birthday party to go to that day so I couldn’t spend much time there. Coincidentally we were heading towards the same direction after our date, so we were able to prolong our time together and get the train together. Nicholette was with one of her closest friends, Shingi (aka 3rd wheel – US edition). I went to the party and they proceeded to Shingi's uncles house.

After that day we stayed in contact and maybe after a week or 2 of communicating I thought – Yolo let me fly out to Dallas, Texas to visit Nicholette. I thought that in the worst-case scenario I would crash with aunty Hawa if anything went wrong. Thankfully, everything went well and we even met up with aunty Hawa while I was out there. Aunty Hawa might have Mystic Meg (a British fortune teller) powers because she called it early that we should go ahead and get married. We thought it was a lot of pressure at the time but maybe she saw something in us that we couldn’t see.

Lobola & Forever

Perhaps aunty Hawa should have put a bet on it because that is exactly what happened 2 years later (18th January 2026) when we did the Lobola, traditional wedding in Zimbabwe. I think I can vouch for myself and Nicholette that we had the time of our lives during our stay in Zim. We are now looking forward to celebrating our wedding in The Gambia with everyone who joins us and more importantly, we both are very excited to see what the future holds for us.

Her Story: The Trip That Changed Everything

The million dollar question when people start dating, get engaged, or are soon to be wedded is, "How did you meet"? I could talk about our story and make a long story longer, but I'll keep it nice and sweet. He had me at "HELLO"....jokes, not really. The short version is we met online whilst I was on a trip to the UK. I was there for 10 days but matched with Sengan a day before I was set to come back to America. The date was Jan 26, 2024. After great conversation throughout the day, we decided to meet at the Crabtree Pub in Hemel Hempstead for a quick drink.

A Few Extra Minutes

He said we couldn’t meet for long because he had a party to go to after. Naturally I thought he was making it up in case the date didn’t go well. Instead, Shingi and I had to go to Gatwick that evening and Sengan offered to give us a ride to the train station because he was going in the same direction for his party. Looks like he was an honest guy after all and this made me happy because it allowed us a few more minutes to get to know each other.

Dallas to London

We continued to converse and get to know each other continuously, but I wasn't sure if/when we would see each other again. Then BOOM fast forward to March 8th 2024....he comes to see me in Dallas. We spent the coming months seeing if "we get on" which basically means do we vibe. June 2024 I go visit him in London and enjoyed the visit. Both of our birthdays are in August so we decided to spend them together. We spent Christmas and NYE together as well. I guess we got on well lol.

The Proposal in Switzerland

The Proposal in SwitzerlandThe Proposal in Switzerland

Sengan and I share a passion for traveling and we do that quite a lot. Another August 2025 came and in the UK they have a bank Holiday end of August. Several months before he had mentioned in passing that we should go to Switzerland, but I didn't know it was already sorted. Unbeknownst to me, he had plans I knew nothing about. We woke up early Saturday morning August 23, 2025 and went for a hike. It was very foggy with little to no visibility. The sun eventually came out and as we overlooked the hills on top of the mountain, Sengan popped the question and proposed. I said yes!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Bringing Cows Home

Which brings us to where we are now, 2 years of love and adventure with my personal person. God sent me the perfect ying to my yang, and I am grateful. January 18th 2026 he respected my family and I and "brought the cows home" as we say. We had our magical traditional wedding in Zimbabwe also known as "lobola/roora". Surrounded by lots of family and friends from both sides of the family. Now we look forward to celebrating again in the Gambia. The best advice I can give is, ladies take that random trip with a girlfriend.
