We were introduced through our mutual friend Beth, when she invited me (Nichole) to join her flag football team. Now, as many of you know, I am not very athletically inclined, but I was excited to “get picked”. Little did I know that there was a plot afoot. After a few weeks, Beth asked me what I thought of Nic. I hadn’t really spoken to him but thought he was a nice guy. Then Beth started inviting him to our group outings and events. Nic eventually ask me out to dinner, and we had a wonderful time and the rest is history!!!
Our group of friends have had a Secret Santa party for about 10 years. A rule is you can’t draw your significant other. Last year we did a virtual draw, but due to an error the first time, names were drawn twice. After the second draw, Nic tells me he has Beth. I ask for weeks if he would like help picking a gift for her to which he replies, “No no I have it handled”. The day of the party (12/26/21) its Beth’s turn to open and she announces, “Ashley is my Secret Santa”. Confused, I look at her and tell her Nic is her Secret Santa. Beth pulled a lie so quick it was impressive and says Ashley must have used the first draw name. I was disappointed when I looked that the last gift was Nic’s to Beth and I hadn’t received one. I thought the error meant I wasn’t getting a gift this year. When it was Nic’s turn to hand out his gift, he instead handed it to me saying he had me. Still confused I started opening box after box (nesting box style) until I got to a white Shane Co. box. Crying now, Nic sitting next to me, and in true Nic style asks: “So, you feel like getting married?”
