We have to thank Gamil, our Maid of Honor, for introducing us because without her, there would be no “us”. Gamil decided to pursue a career opportunity in Houston, TX which required her to relocate. As part of a week full of events, Erin suggested that all the girls get together to take professional pictures and that each would wear pumps in different colors. Erin chose red pumps. AJ, too, started at the company with Gamil in Houston. He noticed the picture on Gamil’s desk and asked “Who is the girl in the red shoes? Is she single?” After a few weeks of “screening” AJ, Gamil decided to call Erin and ask if it was okay to give AJ her number. Shortly after, AJ was relocated to a small town in Maryland to work on a major project. After a year of talking over the phone, Erin took a trip with her friend Mariel to Philadelphia and let AJ know she would be in Philly until Monday. AJ drove 3 hours to finally meet Erin in person. After spending the day together, AJ dropped Erin off at the airport. Before she walked away he said, “I need to know the next time I’m going to see you before you get on that plane.” And that was all Erin needed to hear. A man with a plan!
They decided that AJ would fly her out to Maryland so they could spend more time together. When he picked her up from the airport, it was really awkward. They were both nervous once they saw each other again. Despite talking all the time, they didn’t have anything to say. AJ stayed 2 hours from the airport and the vibe was off. After about 45 mins, Erin decided to take over the radio to find something for them to listen to. All of the sudden, she started beating on the dashboard and yelled “Oh this my songggg” followed by a horrendous cat like screech to a sing-a-long of R.Kelly’s “Slow Dance”! Once she came to, and realized that she let the music take over and saw AJ was staring at her. They both let out the biggest laugh. And that’s when they knew everything was going to be alright! A few weeks later, they were still doing their daily conversations and AJ’s friend invited him over after work for a few drinks. AJ had finally decided he was going to ask her to be his girl. They were on the phone for awhile, and he finally got the courage to ask her to be his girl but when the words finally flew out his mouth, she laughed! AJ ended up asking would Erin be his boyfriend! She finally said that she couldn’t help AJ with being a boyfriend but she could be the best girlfriend ever!
Erin & AJ had went to look at a couple of rings a few months prior after deciding that they shouldn’t let COVID stop the progress of their relationship. Erin told him 3 ring options that she liked but left it to him to decided so she could still be surprised. AJ let Erin have input into the ring, but said the when and where was up to him. A few months had gone by and NOTHING! COVID was still interfering with being able to gather with loves ones in a normal way, but things were starting to let up. Erin’s sister-bff (Matron of Honor) asked Erin to get a mani and pedi for Erin’s goddaughter’s birthday. Little did she know, AJ recruited Mel to help get Erin nails done for the engagement. The next day, they were getting ready for Erin’s family to come over for a small bbq in the backyard. The doorbell rang and to Erin’s surprise it was my best friends mom at the door with a gift from my best friend (A.K.A..the matchmaker). Naturally, Erin invited her in the backyard to say a quick “Hi” to her parents and to see Zavier. Once everyone exchanged their greetings, Ms Myers facetimed Gamil so she could watch me open my gift. I opened the box and there were these cute RED slippers and a scratch off. I proceed to scratch the card and to my surprise it said “Will you marry me?” Erin doesn’t remember the order of things after that, but she know there was a scream, a dance, a hug and kiss, her dream ring, family and friends and most importanly her forever boo!
