One day in the summer of 2018, Nick came up with a plan. He and Laura were going on a camping trip to Glacier National Park that August, and he decided that there was a mountain there that would be just perfect for a romantic marriage proposal. He bought a silicone camping ring to use (guaranteeing that Laura didn't have the slightest inkling that this was coming) and picked out his hiking trail for the big moment. When the day of the hike came, Nick was ready with the ring, but about seven miles into the twelve mile hike, aching feet had set in and things weren't seeming so romantic. Laura was in a distinctly disagreeable mood so Nick wisely decided that maybe the mountaintop wasn't the right place after all. He quickly adapted and thought he would try again back at the campsite after dinner. However, it just so happened that a mother bear and her three cubs chose that night to relocate to Nick and Laura's campsite, so the second attempt was thwarted by the necessity of making a hasty retreat! He decided this whole outdoors business was just too risky, and settled for a proposal at a charming, historic restaurant, nestled in the heart of Many Glaciers Valley. With romantic piano music still lingering in their ears, Nick asked Laura to marry him the night before they were to leave the park. She was very surprised and delighted, and much to his relief, she said yes! While the proposal didn't go exactly to plan, Laura's happiness and excitement made all of the delays more than worth it, and they left Glacier happily planning their futures together.
