Nick and Jessie met while they both were working for Big5 in Santa Paula. Jessie had worked there for a year or so before Nick transferred to the same location. One of Nick's best friends, J, worked with Jessie prior and let Nick know that he would like her and was someone good to work with. The first day Nick was at Big5 he introduced himself to Jessie at the cash register. They would often talk when they worked together week after week and became friends very quickly. Nick and Jessie talked every day for almost a year before Nick finally asked Jessie out on a date. Jessie didn't answer right away, she didn't make Nick wait long though. After their first date the two were inseparable.

Nick had been planning out his proposal to Jessie for a while, with his parents help it was made possible. The night of New Years Eve Nick and Jessie went to Nick's parents house to celebrate, which was completely normal. When they arrived Jessie quickly realized there were more people there than she expected but it was Nick's immediate family and close friends so she thought nothing of it. Everyone was talking and playing games the whole night. When there was only a couple minutes until midnight everyone made their way outside to watch the countdown on the television. Everyone was gathered together and waiting for the moment Nick was going to pop the question. Right as it hit midnight Nick jumped up and down right to celebrate what Jessie thought was the New Year. He then immediately dropped to one knee acting as if his bad knee was hurting from the jumping. Jessie completely fell for it, thinking something was wrong, which if you know Nick, most of the time this is not far for the truth. As Jessie bent down to ask Nick what happened, he grabbed the ring out of his back pocket and popped the question everyone had been waiting for. Of course, she said "YES!" Nick and Jessie then celebrated with everyone until the very late hours of the morning. It was perfect.
