Things To Do

Here are some of Esme and Nick's favourite places to go in Humboldt County. *Arcata is about a 20-25 minute drive from Eureka. WTF (Where's The Food) -Los Bagels (Eureka + Arcata) -Renata's Creperie (Arcata) -Siam Orchid (Eureka) -Arcata Pizza and Deli (Arcata) -Sushi Spot (Eureka + Arcata) -Plaza Grill (Arcata) -Slice of Humboldt Pie/Bittersweet (Arcata) Places to Visit -Sequoia Park Zoo + Skywalk (Eureka) -Redwood Park (Arcata) -Somoa Beach (Eureka/Somoa)

Los Bagels

403 2nd Street, Eureka, CA 95501

This is Nick's favourite place to get breakfast. After eating our bagels, we like to either walk down to the boardwalk or window shop at some of the local stores (especially the two bookstores right across the way). *Arcata Location 1061 I St, Arcata, CA 95521

Renata's Creperie

1030 G Street, Arcata, CA 95521

This is Esme's favourite place to get breakfast. They have a great selection of sweet and savoury crepes. Esme's go to order is the Hungry Farmer topped with the organic salad greens. *It is helpful to call ahead or be ready to wait a bit because this place gets popular.

Siam Orchid Thai Cuisine

427 V Street, Eureka, CA 95501

A favourite to-go dinner spot for us. They also have an in person dining option. Dishes that we enjoy from this restaurant are the Fresh Spring Rolls, Chicken or Beef Padd Thai, and Chicken Padd See-ew.

Arcata Pizza & Deli

1057 H Street, Arcata, CA 95521

Generous portions of pizza, sandwiches, and they use locally caught fresh fish.

Sushi Spot (Eureka)

2021 4th St., Eureka, CA 95501

Going out for sushi was one of our first dates and we still love it to this day. We recommend trying the Tempura Prawn Roll for those that eat seafood and the Sunshine Roll for our vegetarian friends. *Arcata Location: 670 9th St #101, Arcata, CA 95521 **Call ahead at least an hour before (if ordering to go) as this restaurant gets quite busy.

Plaza Grill

780 7th Street, Arcata, CA 95521

This is a nice option if you want a fancier sit down dinner.

Slice Of Humboldt Pie

828 I Street, Arcata, CA 95521

Also called Bittersweet there are two businesses located in this building. The first is Slice of Humboldt Pie which has a selection of savoury and sweet pies (with some options being gluten free and/or vegan)! Esme's go to pie options are the Personal Chicken Pot Pie (savoury) and a slice of the Chocolate Silk Pie (sweet). The other business is called The Local Cider Bar. They have various options of hard cider on tap for you to enjoy with your pies or by themselves. *Make sure to bring your ID if you choose to get some cider.

Sequoia Park Zoo + Sky Walk

3414 W Street, Eureka, CA 95503

We are fairly frequent visitors of the zoo (mainly because Esme's favourite animal is the red panda, which they have two of). In addition there is a newly built Sky Walk located within the zoo that allows you to walk amongst the redwoods (do be careful if you have a fear of heights). Also Sequoia Park is about a 5 minute walk away from the zoo that has plenty of trails where you can walk amongst the redwoods (on solid ground) for free. *Admission to the Zoo and Skywalk is as follows (you must buy tickets in person day of) General (13-59) $24.95 Military (with ID) $22.95 Seniors (60+) $22.95 Children (3-12) $12.95 With EBT/BIC Card $4.00 Babies (0-2) FREE

Redwood Park

Park Drive, Arcata, CA 95521

When it is not too cold out Nick can occasionally get Esme to go outside on a walk. This is one of our walking places. With many different trails this is another place where you can walk amongst the redwoods.

Somoa Beach

Somoa, CA

When she has to go outside this is one of Esme's preferred outdoor activities. You can walk along the shore (or if you are brave take a swim in the ocean). *Follow these directions to get to Somoa Beach. Drive west on Highway 255 from Highway 101 in Eureka and turn south onto New Navy Base Road. The parking lot will be on your right across the road from a Samoa housing development. From there it’s just a short walk through the dunes to Samoa Beach. **The sand is a bit coarse, rough, irritating, and gets everywhere (so we suggest bringing a towel).
