Cocina al Fonda is a Puerto Rican-owned and operated restaurant that is rooted in the traditions, flavors, and history of the island. When we visited Puerto Rico to search for wedding venues, we explored the island on scooters and came across this cute, homey restaurant. The food and drinks were so flavorful and we 10/10 recommend this restaurant to our family and friends as a must try. I would recommend making a reservation before visiting Puerto Rico as this is a popular restaurant. Without a reservation, you may need to wait awhile. The restaurant is 15 minutes from Hotel el Convento and 6 minutes from Sheraton Resort & Casino.
La Casita Blanca is where you want to go if you're in the mood for Abuela's home cooked meal because that's exactly what it reminded us of. La Casita Blanca is an old family home that was turned into a restaurant. Inside you get the literal feeling of being in the living room/dining room of your Abuela's house. The food was so delicious! Our top favorite was the soup. Helpful suggestion… Get there early! La Casita Blanca does not take reservations nor do they have a hostess stand. When you arrive to the restaurant, there will be a line starting outside and you will wait in line until it's your turn. It's like waiting in line for your favorite ride at Disney World. The restaurant is a 15 minute drive from Hotel el Convento and a 9 minute drive from Sheraton Resort & Casino.
La Carreta is in the heart & soul of Old San Juan. If you're looking for a breakfast & brunch spot, this is the place we recommend. The ambience is beautiful and if you're lucky enough to sit by the window, you'll be able to get the best photo ops with the view of the Old San Juan buildings and courtyard in the background. This restaurant from Hotel el Convento is only a 6 minute walk and from the Sheraton Resort & Casino it's a 13 minute drive.
