We met for the first time at Dolores Park in San Francisco. Lacey was living in Pleasanton at the time and Nic had just moved to San Francisco. We hit it off right away, had a great day but remained friends for a few months because Lacey wasn't living in San Francisco yet. After a few times bumping into each other in the city and a couple of times sliding into each other's DMs, three months later, we decided to go for a night out with friends. We danced and sang the night away at 90s night at the Great Northern and had such a great time together. Luckily Lacey had plans to move to the city the month following so we knew going on dates would become a lot easier to plan.
The moment we knew this was something truly special was a few weeks later. Lacey invited Nic on a Tahoe trip with friends, and at the last minute, all of Lacey's friends said they couldn't make it. We were really excited to go skiing so we decided to go just us two. Nic likes to call this "kidnapping," but Lacey prefers to think it was just good luck. We had the best time on this trip filled with skiing, dancing, and meaningful talks about life. While all these amazing moments were happening we were also hit with adverse weather conditions leading to an extra night in Tahoe and a 12-hour drive back to San Francisco. Luckily, that wasn't an issue because we were having so much fun together, and because of this experience, we learned that we made a great team. We didn't know this at the time, but this weekend was the first of many Tahoe trips, and skiing would quickly become our favorite activity to do together.
Fast-forward five years later, we were celebrating our five-year dating anniversary in Carmel-by-the-Sea. We took the Smiths' sprinter van and spent the weekend camping out, enjoying the beach views, drinking great wine and eating delicious food. Saturday morning, 5/9/24, was our five-year dating anniversary. We got up in the morning, made breakfast, and went on a hike. In the afternoon, we returned to our campsite and got all dressed up because Nic had planned a nice dinner at the Inn of Spanish Bay for our anniversary. We drove down the 17-mile drive in Pebble Beach before dinner, made a few stops along the way, and our last stop was Asilomar State Beach. The weather was gorgeous that day and we walked down to this beautiful private area of the beach. Shortly after sitting on the beach and looking out at the view for a few minutes, Nic got down on one knee and proposed. Lacey got happy feet and was jumping up and down in excitement. It was such a special moment that we will never forget.
