Nicole's version: I went to a party with one of my girl friends, and when we walked through the door, Joe and I made eye contact and smiled at each other. Later on, we got to talking and found out that we both had navy blue trucks, loved to go fishing and much more. We talked all night and ended up exchanging numbers. When it was time to leave, Joe walked me to my truck and opened my door for me and insisted I text him and let him know I got home safe. When I got home, I texted him and he asked when he could see me again. I told him tomorrow and the rest was history. Joe's version: My buddies and I were hosting a party, and through the doors walked in a very special someone who caught my attention immediately, Nicole. We made eye contact, exchanged smiles, sat on the couch and got to talking. We quickly realized we shared many of the same hobbies, interests and beliefs. As the night went on, things only got better; I knew there was something there. When it was time for her to go her way, I walked her down the drive way to her truck, talked some more and exchanged numbers. I had fallen like never before. The next few days we stayed in contact and continued to see each other everyday. From that day on, I have not gone a single day without her. I knew then, and I know now, that she is everything I've ever wanted, and will soon be my beautiful, loving, fun, crazy wife. Forever and ever, happily ever after.
The week leading up to the proposal, I knew something was up. Joe insisted that no matter what we had to go to the waterfall on Saturday since we didn't go the weekend before. He also looked at my nails, said they looked "ratchet" and told me I needed to get them done. Fast forward to the day of: He insisted on wearing long, thick cargo pants to go hiking...weird. On the drive over, he kept breathing hard and acting nervous. When we got to Tallulah Gorge, we went down around 1,000 stairs and arrived at a platform. Joe told me he was going to "grab someone to take our picture." We posed, Joe grabbed my hands, said his sweet things and asked me to be his wife. Obviously I said YES! We stepped to the side to watch the video and see the pictures. My phone slipped out of my hand, went through the grates on the platform and landed in the water 15 feet below. The crowd watching gasped simultaneously, and we all looked down at the phone holding the proposal and all the pictures laying in the water. I told Joe we had to get it and if he didn't scale down there then I was going to. Joe being the monkey that he is scaled over the balcony, climbed down and jumped onto a rock 10 feet below. He couldn't quite reach the phone so he had to do a split over the phone and hold onto a rock with the tips of his fingers to get the phone. He pulled it out of the water and screamed IT WORKS! Everyone who was watching over the ledge started to cheer. Now he had to scale back up 15 feet to get to the balcony. He jumped from one rock to the other and had to use his finger tips to scale up the 10 foot wall. He climbed under the pier and scaled back over the side. (My FIANCE is a badass!!) He handed me my phone, I sent him the pictures and video and then my phone shut off for good. It was perfect timing!! The whole day was perfect timing!! We climbed back up the 1,000+ stairs and got to the car and it started pouring and haling!! We just missed the storm.
