Newt and I met in nursing school at Duke University in Durham, NC in the summer of 2013 (an unlikely place to meet your future husband!). We were good friends for about a year and enjoyed spending time with mutual friends, playing tennis, swimming, running (though Newt now admits that he hates running and was just trying to win me over), and going on Whole Foods dates. After a bit of liquid courage, Kelsey finally admitted to Newt that she had romantic feelings for him and the rest is history.
Newt and I planned a ski trip up to Whistler in British Columbia. We spent a couple of days exploring Vancouver - riding around on bikes and tasting all the delicious Asian foods. After that we rented a car and drove up the Sea to Sky highway (a beautiful drive!) to Whistler. On February 1st, we went cross country skiing on a beautiful sunny day. I grew up cross country skiing and had begged Newt to take me. Newt, though, naturally very athletic, is not very good at cross country skiing and fell as soon as he put his skis on in the parking lot. As we went along, he kept saying that we needed to find a really pretty spot to take a break. I couldn't figure out why he wanted to keep going further and further because he was so bad at the sport. He finally found a sufficient spot and popped the question! We spent the rest of the week celebrating and enjoyed getting several feet of snow dumped on us for some good powdery runs. Also, Newt's youngest sister Spencer came up to join us and made the rest of the week so special!
In April of 2017, we quit our jobs in Durham, NC and decided that we wanted to try travel nursing before settling down. We spent May-July in Santa Fe, NM enjoying the local cuisine (green chile enchiladas!), hiking in the Sangre de Christo mountain range, rafting down the Rio Grande, visiting the local farmer's market, touring the regional pueblos, taking New Mexican cooking classes, and acclimating to life at 7,000 feet. In August, we went on a road trip from Salt Lake City, Utah, through Moab, to Telluride, CO. We worked in Denver, CO from August-November and enjoyed climbing the tallest peak in Colorado, hearing the elk bugles in Rocky Mountain National Park, driving through Georgetown, CO and Guanella pass in the Fall and seeing all the aspens change color, and drinking kombucha like the locals! Currently we are living in the quaint town of Gig Harbor in Washington state and working in Tacoma, just south of Seattle. We enjoy clear days when we can see Mt Rainier, riding the ferry over the Puget Sound, hiking on the Olympic Peninsula, skiing and snowboarding, drinking Starbucks and going to the climbing gym on rainy days. We don't know where our adventures will be taking us next but we're so excited to continue on this fun journey together! #registerednomads
