How We Met

Ghazi & I met at work. He was doing a financial seminar for my company and they offered one-on-one meetings to discuss personal finances. Ghazi was assigned to me, and we first met shortly after. We spoke more about ourselves (where we went to school, upcoming plans, etc.) than my finances. It was clear we had a lot in common and hit it off pretty much right away. We continued to chat over email for a while; Ghazi then slipped his cellphone number cleverly into an email and the rest is history!

The Proposal

If you know me, you know I don't do well with surprises. I ask a lot of questions and get very suspicious very easily. Well, that's what happened here. Our two year anniversary was coming up at the end of May, but our first date was actually around Cinco de Mayo. I was planning a trip to Florida with my mom for the end of April, but Ghazi kept talking about the weekend I was going to be back (which happened to be Cinco de Mayo weekend). He said he really wanted to go back to the Turning Point (where we went on our first date); we hadn't been back there since that day, so of course, a red flag went up in my mind. The next clue was when he asked me if going to the beach in Florida would ruin my nails (what man asks that?) I told my friends about my suspicions (which by the way, were correct). So, they tipped him off. Ghazi already had the whole proposal planned for May 4th and told everyone where to meet for the afterparty. Now, he had to change it at the last minute! He ended up moving the proposal up to the Saturday before I left for Florida. I had just gotten my nails done and my friend Katie asked me to get lunch. Natalie was also joining us, and I was told to meet her in the park. She said she needed to take photos of me to use as a reference for work (she's in graphic design, so it made sense). I got there and Ghazi appeared out of nowhere! I was truly much more surprised and caught off guard than I would have been if he waited until the next week. I definitely wasn't ready for a photo op or looking my best, which I still mention to Ghazi every now and again. Sometimes things don't work out as planned, but it ended up being a great day!
