Brattleboro VT in southern Vermont is a beautiful place to be, especially in August. Found directly off VT highway 91 our quaint downtown and surrounding area has a couple of hotel/motel options. Airbnb is normally pretty good in the area, feel free to reach out if you have a prospective place in mind and would like a local's opinion.
For those coming from out of state/country, hiring a vehicle is probably quite beneficial, however the Amtrak line between New York city and Canada does stop directly in the downtown area for an option to get here without a car.
