In November of eight grade (2017), Kyle joined the Nordic Ski team which Nellie had been a part of for a few years prior. Their first encounter was at the ski chalet, where Nellie asked Kyle, "Do you know Star Wars?" Kyle is a fan of Star Wars so yes, he had seen all the shows. Nellie said, "Well, you look like Kylo Ren." Nellie and Kyle started dating in the beginning of Freshman year, and have been together for almost five years. To this day, Kylo Ren remains Kyle's nickname.

After Nellie and Kyle tie the knot, Nellie will be joining Kyle at Michigan Technological University where Kyle has been attending for the last year. They plan to move into an apartment on campus together for the next two years of Kyle's schooling. Nellie has a vet assistant job where she will continue in her passion for animals.
