Our Story

Natilyn Hepburn-Beaty and Sean Devlin

2021 in New York City was a unique time. The world was emerging from the toughest parts of the pandemic and social lives were beginning to thrive again. Pub trivia was a popular way to pass the time in the newly re-opened city, and to make a little extra money, Sean decided to try his hand at hosting a trivia night at Trinity Pub on the Upper East Side of Manhattan. Around the same time, Natty, the Upper East Side's newest resident, was exploring her exciting new neighborhood and taking in everything the Big Apple had to offer. One Tuesday evening she walked by Trinity Pub and saw man in a Phillies cap and basketball shorts that went out of style when DVD players were still popular sitting outside with a microphone asking all sorts of fun questions. Remembering the words of her professor Dr. Houston at Greenville University, "To find community in New York, you have to find a good church a good Irish pub," Natty decided to keep coming back week after week. After a while, the two struck up a friendship, and after a few months of Sean dragging his feet, he took Natty to an Italian dinner at Serafina on the Upper West Side, and the two decided to form a couple. In any relationship, meeting the family members is a big step. The first family member to meet Sean was Natty's best friend/child/cat Gloria, and while she wasn't too sure about this strange bearded man at first, she eventually came to love him and made him a proud cat dad. They've also spent lots of special times with their human family members too, creating countless memories with them all across the country. Over the next several years, they shared lots of key moments together, including Natty's first trip to the Philadelphia area the night of the Super Bowl in 2023 (they lost, but what else is new) and Sean's first trip to Southern Illinois where Natty showed him the joys of the Shawnee Wine Trail and candied pecans. Since they've met, they've celebrated weddings with friends, traveled across the country and internationally together and formed lifelong bonds. Over the last year they moved in together and Sean asked Natty to marry him on June 1, 2024. She said yes, and both friends and family were there to celebrate in New York with the newly engaged couple. Both Natty and Sean are so excited to celebrate their wedding weekend with all of you in The Lou!
