Yes we are! The Welcome Massage is a gift to our Parents and the Wedding Party at Pavilion Spa. The snorkeling activity will be covered for everyone, it's important to us that you can participate without worry.
Yes there is! We urge you to stay as close as you can to Pavilion on Lamai Beach. Within a 2-5 minute walk is The Privilege Hotel Ezra Royal Beach ($115), Lamai Coconut Beach Resort ($60), Lamai Inn 99 Bungalows ($58) and Rich Resort ($31). We figured most of the parents would want to stay at Pavilion but if it looks like no one is booking it we can certainly try and work out a block of rooms with one of the other hotels. Please let us know on the Google Doc below where you're thinking of staying so we can keep track and make block room requests if needed. https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1sp-Kk13Tp8-lNsvgm1YJwZc0PY4CqZ2ZotE7avU8Nt0/edit?usp=sharing
After airfare (hopefully booked with points) and hotel costs, expenses remain pretty low from there! To give you an idea, most entrees/meals are $4-$6 USD unless you are at a tourist restaurant. If you are at a tourist restaurant it will be more like $6-$10 USD depending. Getting to and from Lamai Beach to Chaweng Beach (The Party Beach) or other short distances should be a taxi ride of $3-$6 USD. At a restaurant or bar Beers are about $3 USD and Cocktails are about $5 USD.
We recommend you download the "XE Currency" App on your phone so you can use it while you're in Thailand. The conversion is $1 USD = 30.82 THB. As mentioned before a typical entree at a sit down restaurant would be 150 THB = $4.86 USD
On Koh Samui the app is called "NaviGo". It's very easy to use - just like Uber - and you don't need to connect it to your credit card. You can call the car and simply pay with cash. It works fine over WIFI and doesn't need cell service to work.
That's completely up to you and hopefully you can use points. We do recommend however if you can, to avoid a layover in China or flying with Chinese airlines. Most Americans do not enjoy the airline food, layover food and layover process in China. In addition you are not allowed to leave the Airport in China without applying for a VISA before hand.
It's very easy to connect to WIFI at all the airports, hotels and restaurants. If you have an iPhone you can send iMessages on WIFI and make Facetime Audio Calls to others with an iPhone. Also, you can certainly purchase a SIM Card when you arrive and pop that in to make calls. SIM Cards are prepaid. However, if you are expecting business or other important calls while you are away, then yes you may want to get a plan. Please ask your provider.
Sunscreen and Bug Spray are the most important things to bring! Swim suits, sunglasses, hats, sandals, breathable quick dry and linen clothing are recommended and the rest is up to you! Jeans and thick clothing are discouraged.
When leaving on a Friday/Saturday, you'll most likely arrive Sunday/Monday due to the time change. When flying back, you'll be arriving the same day you'll be leaving. We HIGHLY RECOMMEND using points! Nate and I have travelled to Thailand, Maldives, Cambodia, Spain, Croatia, Costa Rica, Australia etc. all on points. If you're not sure how to do this please contact Sarah and she can assist you with any travel questions and can also give you a list of cc's to sign up for that will give you $600-$1,000 FREE bonus travel points. Right now flights from LAX>USM are $514 one way.
U.S. citizens carrying a tourist passport and in possession of an onward or return airline ticket do not require a visa to enter Thailand and can stay for up to 30 days. *Please double check your Passport's Expiration Date. Your passport must have at least six months validity remaining to be allowed entry.*
