In March of 2018, Nathan and Theresa first met in what was an otherwise ordinary “minute mingle” at their church in Kent, WA. During their first encounter, they quickly learned about all that they had in common. Nathan and Theresa remained friends as she moved to Arizona to complete her undergraduate degree and Nathan remained at his duty station at Joint Base Lewis-McChord. While their first meeting was brought on by ordinary circumstances, their journey together slowly turned extraordinary. In 2020, Nathan was honorably discharged from the Army and Theresa graduated from university. While navigating through their new environment affected by COVID-19, Nathan and Theresa’s friendship flourished against all odds. By fall, Nathan asked her out on their first date. While many establishments remained hard to access. Nathan and Theresa kept their doors open for each other as they found any and every opportunity to visit, cook, and care for each other. Several months later, Nathan got accepted to the Orthotic and Prosthetic program at Baylor College of Medicine in Houston. Being faced with this new opportunity, they had a hard decision to make on whether or not they wanted to maintain their relationship in a new long distance format. Fortunately, they decided they would try. Theresa stayed in Washington and Nathan moved to Texas to pursue his master’s degree. Every night, Nathan and Theresa would share long phone calls to stay in touch. When the longing for each other grew strong, they would visit each other to be by each other’s side when they could. Through these hard circumstances, their relationship remained long distance for three years until Nathan completed his program. Then, at long last, Nathan finally moved back to Washington for good. With the distance between them finally as small as it had ever been, Nathan decided to propose to Theresa in spring of 2024. With the help of close friends and family, a plan had been set to propose to Theresa at one of their earliest date locations. On March 30, 2024, Theresa and Nathan had started their day with a refreshing breakfast at the Salish Lodge at Snoqualmie Falls. After a lovely start to their morning, Nathan took Theresa to the different lookouts to admire the falls until they finally came down to the Snoqualmie river. Once there, Nathan took Theresa by the hand and proposed. Without any hesitation, she said “Of course!” Over the next few months, many transitions happened in their lives. Nathan had become established at Shriner’s Hospital for Children - Spokane as an orthotic and prosthetic clinician. Theresa eventually moved to Spokane in summer of 2024 to start her Doctorate in Physical Therapy at Whitworth University. - We cannot express how excited we are to celebrate our wedding with you all, whether it is in person or from the other side of the world.
