1 Peter 4:8

A little over a year ago, I was happily attending church, much like any other Sunday. All of the sudden, I noticed a strangely attractive woman around my age walk in. Naturally, I avoided her. The next few weeks were fairly similar, I’d go in, avoid Scary Girl, and go home. Life was good. Then, one Sunday after a particularly successful day of non-contact, I was eager to go home and get to some much-needed video gaming. However, my roommate was planning a hike with this new girl, so as usual, I politely declined. Hiking? No. Scary Girl, No-er. So naturally I found myself in the car on the way to get food on the way to the hike. We got to the restaurant, and I skillfully placed myself as far away from Scary Girl as I could and enjoyed my burrito. When the time came to leave for the hike, I noticed that the car I had planned to get into was full, and I felt it was high time to stop running away and at least say hi to Scary Girl. So, I got in the back of her sister’s car and we drove away. On the way up I was able to learn more about Scary Girl and her sister. I was also relatively pleased that a few comments had gotten a chuckle. We arrived at the trailhead quite a ways ahead of the other car, so I decided to enlighten Scary Girl on the joys of throwing rocks into bodies of water, something I am sorry to say was lacking in her upbringing. Unfortunately, right as we were getting into the swing of things, the other car showed up, and I was forced to hike. On the hike, I was able to continue talking to her, as we were both at the front of the group. While talking to her, I was trying my absolute best not to flirt, and I am happy to report that by the time we got off the hike and finished our post hike meal, we were sworn enemies. I had succeeded and gained a witty nemesis. Unfortunately, I had let slip on the hike that I had a pet snake, and Scary Girl was interested in visiting this said snake. So, one fateful Saturday morning, Scary Girl came over to visit my pet, and while that happened, we also managed to listen to a ton of new music, go to the gym, and paint. By the time she was done with her 15-minute visit, it was late evening and we were both starting to question our mutual animosity. After a few more similarly enjoyable hangouts, we decided that maybe we should abandon enmity altogether. After a long and detailed conversation, we decided to pray and fast about our relationship. A week later we had decided to make it official. Then we decided that if it was official maybe we should go on a real date. Scary Nemesis Girl was now my girlfriend.
