Within the picturesque campus of the University of Redlands from 2012 to 2016, Nathan and Katie, unbeknownst to each other, shared the same campus and experiences. Yet, their paths remained parallel, never crossing during their four years at the university. Katie states that Nathan was too tall and out of her eyesight, but truthfully their athletic endeavors and sorority adventures never found their way to each other. After graduation, Katie embarked on a journey to Salzburg, Austria, while Nathan joined the UofR's IT department. When Katie returned to the University of Redlands a year later to the Office of Community Service Learning, fate would have intervened as Katie was to contact the IT department to ensure everything was set up correctly, which she never did because she thought she could do it herself. (Her contact name was Nathan Meier). Their story truly began when they matched on Bumble, and Katie's insightful and clever message, "hello fellow bulldog," caught Nathan's attention. They met for the first time on December 12, 2017, and their first date at Dhat Island the next day lasted seven hours. Katie called Joline as she got into the car and told her she felt really good about this one. And of course, Katie was right and the first year of their relationship was filled with happiness, traveling, and exciting changes. Nathan and Katie traveled to Dublin, Ireland after the holidays and celebrated the New Year in Salzburg, Austria. Nathan said goodbye to his IT position and ventured into coaching at the University of Redlands. In 2019, Nathan received an irresistible coaching offer at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, setting the stage for a challenging yet memorable long-distance relationship. Katie visited Nebraska for the first time, and they shared unforgettable moments like meeting in Denver, Colorado to watch the Chargers play the Broncos, dinners at “Honest Abe’s” in Lincoln, and going to a UNL Volleyball game. In 2020, the world faced the challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic, leading to Nathan's return to California until athletics resumed in the Fall of 2020. Time back in California brought back in person dates, but this time outdoors and distant, but still together! As Nathan's coaching journey continued, he returned to the University of Redlands to work with the Cross Country and Track and Field program in the Fall of 2021, just as Katie was leaving the university to pursue her dream as a teacher at Walnut High School. Life moved forward, and their love only grew stronger. In February of 2021, they celebrated their four-year anniversary, and in May, Nathan orchestrated a beautiful proposal at Europa Winery, surrounded by family. And so, Nathan and Katie's love story continues to unfold and the promise of a lifetime of love and happiness together remains.
