We met during week of welcome (WOW) at Cal Poly where we spent the week wandering the campus together as wide eyed freshmen. It kicked off a wonderful friendship that slowly evolved into something more over the course of many mediocre on-campus meals, study sessions (where Jenna never stopped kicking Nathan's butt in math), and movie nights. Nathan finally got brave enough to ask Jenna out on a date in May, and we decided to make it official on the last week of the year. We're happy to say that after our slow start we never looked back.
It was still the early days of COVID when Nathan realized he had the perfect idea for a proposal - a photoshoot just before his family moved away from his hometown in Aspen, Colorado. Thanks to his sister and parents, that idea changed from just an idea into a rapidly approaching reality. So after innocuously asking Jenna what types of rings she liked, Nathan set about getting the Lillie's blessing (which they happily provided), and ordered a ring from a family friend that he really hoped Jenna would like. The big day arrived, and the photographer was all set, but the ring was still being made. So after briefly panicking, Nathan and his family managed to get a spare ring, and Jenna was none the wiser. So a very nervous Nathan and an unbothered Jenna were bundled off to a "family photoshoot". Jenna was quite surprised when early on in the session Nathan knelt down and asked her to Marry him. If you are reading this story then you probably know her answer (it was YES!). If you ask Nathan about this story, he will mention that calmly kneeling and asking someone to marry you is quite a bit harder and nerve-wracking to get right than you think it would be. Regardless, the proposal turned the last weekend in Aspen at Nathan's house into a memory he and Jenna cherish, and it opened a a new and exciting chapter in their lives together.
