Sometimes the best stories start when you’re least expecting them. On April 9, we were both at Char Bar No. 7 in Southern Pines—both unexpectedly. Nate was there because a friend was in town and trivia night was happening, even though he was sick and just about ready to call it a night and head home. Hana had her usual trivia canceled and decided—on a whim—to try Char Bar's trivia for the very first time. We noticed each other from across the restaurant and definitely thought the other was attractive… but neither of us made a move. That is until Hana (not shocking at all): passed Nate a note from across the room. Not long after, she walked over, and just like that, everything changed. From the moment we started talking, it felt easy. We smiled, we laughed, and somehow the rest of the restaurant faded away. What started as a spontaneous note turned into one of the easiest conversations ever. Almost immediately, we both knew—this wasn’t just another night out. There was something real here. What makes our story even sweeter is how close we came to missing it entirely. If Nate had left a little earlier, or if Hana hadn’t decided to try a new place, or if she hadn’t been brave enough to pass that note—we might never have met. But timing had other plans. That night at Char Bar No. 7 turned into the beginning of our forever, and we’re so grateful that one unexpected evening led us to each other.
