On December 2nd, 2018, Don Hunt hosted a fundraising event for the Boston Marathon at Tommy Dempsey’s Bolton Street apartment. The chocolate martinis were flowing, and everyone was having a great time. The party progressed to a local spot called the Lincoln Tavern. Danielle and Nate struck up a conversation that continued until last call. At that point, Danielle realized she had one too many chocolate martinis and promptly called a Lyft home. Nate, being the gentleman he is, sent Danielle a text message saying, “Hey, it’s Nate— I just wanted to make sure you made it home okay.” Nate's timing was perfect because Danielle had just walked into her apartment. Danielle read the text and immediately thought it was from the Lyft driver who just dropped her off. She politely responded to the “Lyft driver,” who, to her dismay, continued the conversation. Danielle shared her strange Lyft encounter with Tommy Dempsey. Tommy, who immediately recognized Nate’s phone number, asked for screenshots of the conversation, and began drafting a text message to the guy's group chat. The text said something along the lines of, “A recap from last night: Nate thinks he and Danielle totally hit it off, and Danielle thinks Nate is the Lyft driver.” Complete with screenshots of Danielle’s conversation with the “Lyft driver” who, as it turns out, was actually Nate Bryant, a longtime friend from Andover High, whose number Danielle did not have saved to her phone. Tommy decided to enlighten Danielle about her mistake a few days later. Danielle, who was absolutely mortified about the mix-up, decided to double down on her mistake, texting Nate, “I didn’t know you drove for Lyft.” Nate somehow found the humor in the situation and asked Danielle out on a date. They had their first date at Rocco’s in the North End on December 21st, 2018; the rest was history.
Nate told Danielle that he was going to plan a weekend in the White Mountains for some much-needed R&R. When the day came, Danielle, who had no clue what was about to take place, told Nate that she just had one small paper standing between them and their relaxing weekend surrounded by nature. Nate, who very much knew what was about to happen, tried his best to remain calm as he quietly panicked. Nate sat in his thoughts during the two-hour car ride to Conway, New Hampshire, as Danielle typed away on her computer. They arrived at a cozy little cabin in the woods called the Conscious Cabin. Danielle followed Nate through the candle-lit cabin without the slightest bit of suspicion. They walked out to the backyard to find a picturesque scene that could have been pulled from one of Danielle's beloved hallmark movies. As Danielle took in the incredible view, Nate got down on one knee and asked her to marry him. She said YES! and they spent the night stargazing and firefly-watching by the campfire. It was perfect. We're so excited to celebrate with you! See you in Harwich Port!
