Nate and I met at TCU Orientation in a meeting for incoming student-athletes. I was trying to read the required book for all incoming freshmen and Nate came up and introduced himself to me. At the time I thought he was just a "silly football player" trying to impress me. We didn't see much of each other until February at FCA camp and then ended up having a class together the fall of our sophomore year. We became friends and would hang out on occasion. At the TCU All Sports Banquet during the spring of our junior year Nate asked me out to dinner and I spent the next few weeks trying to decide if he meant it as a date. We went to dinner at Hoffbrau Steakhouse on May 6, 2018 and the rest is history.

Nate had a perfect plan including my family, a limo, a steakhouse, and a trip to the Houston Rodeo, but our story turned into a COVID proposal! The morning of the proposal, also the morning of my mom’s 50th birthday, Governor Abbott announced that all restaurants would be closing. The Houston Rodeo had already closed for the season given the circumstances. Nate and my dad quickly put into effect a "Plan B." I came downstairs after getting ready for what I thought was my mom's birthday party. Nate had a slideshow displayed with pictures of us and "I Cross My Heart" by George Strait, the song that was on during our first kiss, was playing. A banner hung across the living room reading "And these three remain: faith, hope and love. But the greatest of these is love. 1 Corinthians 13:13." Nate proposed and I was so in shock I don't remember much of what he said. Luckily he wrote it down so I could read it later. Then my parents and grandparents walked in surprising me with dinner from Pappasito's. The original plan would have been cool, but the alternative plan made it all the more personal.
