How We Met

Summer of 2012

We first met on Beulah Beach down by the t-dock on a hot summer day at the beginning of summer in 2012. We had mutual friends that had introduced us. A few days later we had ran into each other again at a party where we began talking and instantly hit it off. The next day he invited me out to dinner for what I had assumed would be a dinner at restaurant downtown or by the water. Boy was I surprised when he pulled up to his dads house for a nice, big, family dinner. I didn't even know his last name as he walked in the house saying "she only eats chicken" as his dad was pulling the steaks off the grill! I thought he was crazy and couldn't believe I was meeting the family of a guy I had just met the day before. Despite being a total stranger and intruding on their family dinner, they welcomed me with big arms and warm smiles. Although I still thought he was crazy, that craziness turned into drive-in movie theater dates, making mixed CD's for his old beat up Jeep we'd taking two tracking, tailgating backyard bonfires, and our first kiss on the very same t-dock where we had originally met. We were 19, young dumb and crazy about each other. It was truly an an unforgettable summer that I will forever be grateful for. Started as a summer fling - ended as Forever!

The Engagement

July 21, 2018

Nate and I were headed up north for a MacGirr family reunion. I had a crock pot full of mac-n-cheese in the back seat and I was worried it would be cold after the 2 hour drive from Grand Rapids. Half way up north we received a call from Nates dad saying his brothers truck had broken down and we needed to pick up him in Beulah so he could attend the family reunion with us. When pulled in Beulah and Nate said "lets go look for him". I was so confused.. we had never been to his apartment before, but I figured we would just call him and he would run down. We got out and started walking while I asked a million questions of why we were walking and where was he knowing we were already late (and the mac-n-cheese was definitely cold) - I was annoyed to say the least. I was looking everywhere for Nick when Nate stopped - right in front of the t-dock. I said "what are you doing" when he got down on 1 knee and pulled a big red box out of his back pocket. I could not believe it! I was SHOCKED! I started shaking and just kept asking if he was serious. He opened the box to the most beautiful ring as I started crying saying yes. It was such a sentimental spot to me, being in the same spot where we had first met and shared our first kiss... Six years of dating and anxiously waiting for this special moment was 100% worth it all. It was a truly magical day I will remember forever. #OhMyGirrr #WereGettingMarried !
