Nils and Nathalie's most visited restaurant. It's a sign that you can't miss it! The chef had a Michelin star and decided to leave it behind to open a restaurant where only good soul food and a relaxed atmosphere are the priority.
Sorry for what I said before my morning coffee! Visit this place if you want to relax and have a good barista coffee. Fact: the first time Nils and Nathalie visited Lüneburg, this was the first cafe they visited, not knowing that they were going to move to this city and that it would become their favorite place for breakfast. Enjoy!
If you leave the pedestrian zone in Lüneburg and enter the small side streets, you will find them on every corner: small retailers that do not only carry the standard assortment. However, if you don't want to spend money, you'd better put on blinders and don't look left and right.
The water quarter is located between Ilmenau and the town hall and is part of the historic old town of Lüneburg. After a stroll through the many small alleys, it is worth visiting the Stintmarkt, the heart of the district. At the Stintmarkt, as the name suggests, smelt used to be traded. Today, there are countless restaurants and pubs here that invite you to relax. Stop at "Das Kleine" and eat really good North German cuisine there.
Anyone who is in Lüneburg cannot avoid the topic of salt. The white gold was mined here for more than 1,000 years and has helped the small Hanseatic city to great prosperity and power. The buildings, most of which date from the 16th and 17th centuries, were extensively renovated and intercepted and today form a beautiful neighborhood that invites you to stroll and where you feel like you've stepped back in time.
There are as many beautiful doors and windows in the city as in Lüneburg. You have to stop every few meters to admire each of them and to be able to photographically capture every single part of them. To such a beautiful door, by the way, almost always hangs an elegant house, so if you find the doors rather semi-exciting, you can also simply enjoy the whole buildings.
On Waagestraße, opposite the town hall, probably one of the most curious buildings in Lüneburg is hidden away: "The Pregnant House." It is characterized, as its name suggests, by a not-too-small belly and stands right next to the birthplace of the composer Johann Abraham Peter Schulz ("The moon has risen"). Touch the belly for good luck!
The Lüneburg Ghost Gang is the work of an anonymous group of artists who have been painting ghosts on bridges, house walls, electricity boxes and other visible surfaces in the Hanseatic city since about 2010. The graffiti shows ghosts in different colors with sometimes very striking facial expressions. They call these ghosts as the " Lüneburg Ghost Busters". The total number of sprayed ghosts is still growing, but already about 500 different ones have been sighted throughout the city. Have fun finding the ghosts in the city!
As you know, Nils comes from Heide. The first message Nathalie sent to Nils was asking him if he came from that place, and no! It's another Heide. Interestingly enough, years later Nils and Nathalie live a few kilometers away from this caluna field. How lovely!
