Despite being located in a tropical country, Bogotá is a cold city because of its altitude. The average temperature is 55° Fahrenheit so make sure you pack jackets and long pants. Also, be prepared for the possibility of some rain.
Our hotel is conveniently located near the wedding venue and the main shopping and restaurant areas in Bogotá so the ride should be very short and inexpensive (around $3-$5). Uber works in Bogotá and we use it all the time when we are there. It is the safest and most reliable option for transportation. However, it is important to know that Uber is not legal in Bogotá, so if you use it one person must ride in the front seat. Another option is to use an app to call a regular taxi (Tappsi and Easy Taxi are available in the App Store once you get to Bogotá) or you can ask the hotel to arrange transportation. We don’t recommend taking a taxi from the street. Note: In Colombia, you are not expected to tip taxi drivers.
Colombia uses the peso and cash is used in most transactions. We suggest using an ATM at the airport in Bogotá to withdraw pesos. You can bring US dollars and exchange them but it’s usually cheaper and easier to just withdraw pesos from an ATM. Credit/debit cards can also be used in most restaurants and stores but you will need to have cash for smaller transactions and transactions with small businesses. If you plan on bringing a credit/debit card, remember to let your bank know that you will be traveling so that they don’t freeze your cards.
We have outlined some of the most popular places in Bogotá under the “things to do” page on our website. https://www.zola.com/wedding/nathalieandandres/poi You can learn more about the country by visiting the government’s tourism website. http://www.colombia.travel/en/where-to-go/andean/bogota As part of a campaign to promote tourism, the government has teamed up with a popular Colombian singer to make this music video promoting Bogotá. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DsslpiN-0dM&vl=en
