After graduation in 2016, life once again carried them onto separate paths. Viv headed south to the University of Alabama, while Nate settled into college life in Springfield, Massachusetts . They stayed in touch as friends but didn’t expect long distance to work in their favor. That changed late in their freshman fall semester when Viv mentioned she had her sorority formal coming up and, half-jokingly, told Nate she needed a date. Four days later, to her complete surprise, Nate was standing in Tuscaloosa. Over the years that followed, their love only grew stronger. Nate visited Viv in Alabama as often as he could. They traveled to Texas to see her family, explored Costa Rica during her study abroad semester in 2018, and soaked up the beauty of the Dominican Republic, Italy, Canada, and fifteen U.S. states together.
