Not necessarily. Ride share services are available in Puerto Rico, particularly in major urban areas like San Juan. While you can find Uber/Lyft rides in and around popular areas, availability is much more limited outside of the metropolitan areas. If you plan on traveling extensively around the island, renting a car is often a more convenient choice. The bride and groom will be coordinating some island activities including, but not limited to, hiking/adventuring in the El Yunque rain forest, golf, touring the Bacardi factory, ATVs or a visit to a bioluminescent beach at night. Some of these activities/excursions will be outside of the San Juan area. If you'd like to join in or find interest in doing such activities, please leave us a note with your RSVP letting us know when you'll be arriving and what you're interested in. Based on the responses that we get, we'll try yo put together a few different things that work best for the majority of those who responded.

Short answer is no. English is taught as a second language in elementary schools in Puerto Rico and it's common for locals to be bilingual. However, if you find yourself in a Spanglish conversation or struggling, remember "Por favor" & "Gracias".
No. Puerto Rico uses the US dollar as its official currency. Things to keep in mind: Credit and debit cards are widely accepted in most hotels, restaurants, and large stores. Cash is essential for small purchases at places like beach kiosks, food trucks, and for tips. You can get USD from any local ATM (called ATH). Cash is king for street and beach vendors, or small local shops who operate on a cash-only basis. In regard to parking and transit, be prepared for situations where parking machines or taxis may ONLY ACCEPT CASH.
