We met in Pacific Beach, California at a country music bar called Moonshine Beach. Nate was out with some rugby boys celebrating a big Legion win and Katie was out with some of her best friends enjoying the country music. As fate would have it, Katie's friend Morgan (now a bridesmaid) recognized one of rugby boys that Nate was with from college. As they started to chat and catch up, the two groups started to merge and Katie caught Nate's eye. Feeling extra confident after the win that day, Nate decided to shoot his shot. Katie was flattered but had to break it to him that she was moving away to Nashville, TN in the coming month. At this point Nate will tell you he delivered the best pick-up line he's ever had and says "If you're moving to Nashville you're going to need to know how to swing dance". Katie couldn't say no to that and they danced. The rest is history.

Although Nate asked Katie's dad, Don, permission to marry her less than a year after meeting, Nate knew he had to wait for the perfect opportunity to propose. That opportunity came during Katie's annual family camping trip in Modoc, California which also happens to be Katie's favorite place ever. Not only was the majority of Katie's family there but Nate's parents, Fred and Loria, and sister, Jenna, also made the trip out from Idaho. Although Katie had no idea what to expect, she definitely hinted to her friends Modoc would be the perfect spot for a proposal. Because Nate's family was only there for a few days, right away Katie wanted to show them one of her favorite sites and best view of the valley, Sugar Hill. Thankfully Jenna joined Nate and Katie on the drive up the hill and was able to keep Katie distracted while Nate nervously went over his proposal speech in his head and forgot to talk. Once everyone arrived, Nate wasted no time pulling Katie aside, gave an amazing speech, got down on one knee and popped the question. Even though Katie was completely surprised, the answer did not take much thought at all and she yelled "Yes!". Everyone popped champagne overlooking the amazing view and were welcomed back at camp with an engagement party. It was a perfect proposal and perfect day. We are so excited to celebrate this next chapter in our lives with you.
