Designed by legendary golf course architect Pete Dye, the Ocean Course is one of the most iconic courses in American golf. In 1991, it hosted the Ryder Cup in what became known as the “War by the Shore,” where the United States defeated Europe for the first time in eight years. The Ocean Course has also hosted two PGA Championships. In 2012, a young Rory McIlroy captured his second major championship with a dominant eight-stroke victory. The PGA returned in 2021, when Phil “Lefty” Mickelson made history by becoming the oldest major champion in golf history at age 50. The Ocean Course is an iconic part of Kiawah and amazing place to enjoy breathtaking views of the island. We would be remiss to not mention the infamous bagger burger (perhaps their onion rings too) at the Ryder Cup Bar.
Visit any one of the island towers for beautiful scenes of the marsh. Always a fun place to walk to, The Marsh Island Tower is a favorite of ours.
For golf, bike rentals, dolphin cruises, nature tours and more. If you go kayaking, be sure to go at low tide for the rare opportunity to see the dolphins strand feed. The Sanctuary is a timeless establishment on the island. Enjoy walking the grounds, sitting on the Grand Lawn, a coffee shop, and easy beach access.
Night Heron Park is home to a house-favorite, The Nature Center. Explore its brand new facilities, including bowling, golf simulators, an Art Studio, an arcade, and The Nest for a quick bite to eat.
