Our story began at the wedding of Nate's twin brother (Jonathan) and Becky’s childhood best friend (Sarah) in August 2020. At the rehearsal dinner they were one seat short and Nate graciously gave up his seat next to Jonathan and had to come sit at the end of the table by Becky. We got to talking and conversation was easy and we had lots in common. The next day at the reception Nate asked Becky to a slow dance (and we nervously talked about outdoor gear for the whole song) and he asked her out for coffee. After texting for a few weeks we skipped over the traditional coffee date and instead went on a road trip with Jonathan and Sarah to Pennsylvania to celebrate the wedding of Becky and Sarah’s childhood friend. This is the weekend where we had a DTR conversation and officially started dating (Sept. 6, 2020). Since then our relationship has involved lots of texting and trips back and forth from Grand Rapids and Ann Arbor since we are both working on our Masters degrees. Even though long distance has been challenging, we have packed in a lot of outdoor adventures (from Sleeping Bear Dunes to Yosemite) and intentional time with each other, friends, and family. We think there is some truth to the phrase, “Distance makes the heart grow fonder”. Even so, we are looking forward to living in the same city starting in May. Nate will graduate in April and move back to GR. Once married, Nate will move in with Becky (and her bunny Stanley) at Calvin University. We look forward to having access to walking trails, the climbing wall, and dining hall and even more so, we can’t wait to be settled together and investing in our church and community together. We have seen God’s work in the details of our relationship and we are grateful for His faithfulness and goodness to us in it all!
