How We Met

He was the new guy. She was the rookie teacher. Neither saw this coming.

Our story began on January 4, 2016, at Bethune Middle School. I was a first-year teacher returning from winter break, still figuring out this whole teaching thing. He was the experienced teacher—the new guy at school, starting his very first day in Folkston. Our first encounter didn't exactly scream "future husband." When I saw him that morning, I assumed he was a parent. It wasn't until the faculty meeting later that morning that I realized he was actually one of the new staff members. So, technically, I met my future husband and immediately got his identity wrong. Later that afternoon, we both ended up in the gym watching the girls' basketball team practice, something we would later share as a common interest. Since he was new to town and didn't really know anyone, I offered him a ride after work and dropped him off at my baby brother's house. What he didn't know was that this wasn't just a ride—it was the beginning of his unofficial family evaluation period. Somehow, he passed. From that day forward, we were practically inseparable. What started as a conversation between two teachers quickly turned into friendship, laughter, family dinners, and countless memories. Looking back, it's funny to think that a mistaken identity, a basketball practice, and a ride across town would end up becoming the start of our forever. As it turns out, the "new guy" didn't just find a new school that day—he found his family, too.
