Nat and Monica met at an audition for The Kirk Players' Night of One Acts. She thought he was cute, but a little bit of a blowhard. He thought "she's cute...I bet she has a boyfriend." Both were subsequently cast in Black Comedy as Brindsley, a struggling artist who has a big time art dealer loking at his work and Clea, his on again off again mistress back in town to cause some mischief. The two were required to have a lot of intimacy onstage such as grabbing and kissing each other (before really getting to know each other). Nat and Monica's chemistry was so fiery on stage that it elicited strong audience reactions, but behind the scenes as they got to know each other that chemistry started to bleed off stage as well. At the cast party, they were inseparable and at the end of the night Nat told Monica how he felt about her. She felt the same way, but it wasn't the right time for her. They stayed friends after the show and a couple months later, Monica was ready to take that next step. She let him know by inviting him over for pizza, and so it began.
