The University of Wisconsin-Madison campus is large, but walkable. If you want to hit the landmarks we recommend a few spots, which are all gathered fairly close together. The Memorial Union terrace. This is the classic Student Union terrace where you can go for a pitcher of beer and some snacks while you enjoy the lake and the sunshine! Bascom Hill. Just making it to the top of this hill is some decent exercise. And you’ll get a great view from the top!
This historic building is a mainstay of the Madison skyline. Tour the building or walk around Capitol Square, which features some of Madison's classic dining establishments (both fine and casual). Stop by on Saturday morning to check out the Dane County Farmer's Market and grab some famous Hot & Spicy Cheese Bread!
The center of university social life and commerce. Plenty of shopping and dining options here.
The hippy, grad student area of town with ethnic restaurants, co-ops, etc.
Right off the Memorial Union, this is a great path for a stroll if you want to see the lake, the boathouses, and some of the dorms. Watch out for joggers.
One of Madison’s oldest and nicest neighborhoods to wander through. Home to the Governor's Mansion.
