Universal Studios Hollywood is a frequent stop for us—we end up going multiple times a year and never get tired of it. It’s known for the studio tour, Harry Potter World, and Super Nintendo World, and it’s an easy, fun day whether you’re there for rides or just wandering around at your own pace.
Disneyland Park — we’ve somehow never been here in the 10+ years of living here. But a lot of people say it’s kind of a big deal...idk if they're lying or not. From Santa Monica, it’s roughly a 1 to 1.5 hour drive depending on traffic, making it a doable (and classic) Southern California day trip.
The Academy Museum of Motion Pictures is another spot we’ve been to several times and always enjoy. It’s an easy, laid-back way to spend a few hours with rotating film exhibits, iconic movie props and costumes you won't see anywhere else, and great views from the top—perfect even if you’re not a hardcore film buff.
The Comedy Store is...obviously legendary. It's an iconic LA comedy club and a great spot for a night out. You’ll catch a mix of up-and-coming comics and big-name drop-ins, and it’s one of those places where you never really know who might pop in onstage. ***The only note I have for this one is to not trust lineups if you see someone and buy a ticket for that reason. Comics are known for being unreliable, and can drop out last minute. However, even if you're fav comic drops out, you'll still see some INCREDIBLY funny people.
Musso & Frank Grill is a Hollywood classic that’s been around since 1919. We come here for literally any celebration. It’s old-school in the best way—red leather booths, martinis, and a timeless vibe that feels like stepping into another era, even if you’re just there for drinks. Order the filet mignon with béarnaise and truffle mac and cheese and thank me later.
Good Times at Davey Wayne’s is a classic fav. It's an iconic LA spot with a hidden, speakeasy-style entrance through the back of a house. The whole place is themed like a ’70s living room, usually with live music or DJs. If the line's too long, you can always check out it's cousin, "No Vacancy".
Third Street Promenade is a great spot if you’re in the mood to shop, wander, or grab a bite all in one place. It’s an easy stroll with plenty of stores, street performers, and restaurants, and it’s just a few blocks from the beach—very classic Santa Monica energy.
For my LGBTQ peeps — this is where your journey begins in WeHo. This place is iconic.
