Things To Do

The Wedding Website of Natalie Montoya and Mark MacDougall
If you are interested in exploring the Salt Lake City vicinity, here are a few places we recommend if you arrive early or just here for the long weekend. Remember, Monday is a holiday, so we really suggest you make the most of this weekend :)
Bonneville Salt Flats

Bonneville Salt Flats

UT

This is a cool experience, but quite far from SLC (1hr35min). If you have plenty of time we really suggest checking this out.

Timpanogos Cave National Monument

Timpanogos Cave National Monument

2038 East Alpine Loop Road, American Fork, UT 84003

This is a unique experience if you are up for a little challenge. It is a 1000 ft elevation gain, 1.5 mi (paved) hike up to the caves, but definitely worth it. The cave experience takes you through 3 caves with a guide and takes about 1 hr.

Gateway Plaza (Shopping/Food)

Gateway Plaza (Shopping/Food)

537 West 600 South, Salt Lake City, UT 84101

This is a great place to get food and walk around right on the outskirts of downtown SLC.

Ensign Peak Trailhead

Ensign Peak Trailhead

Ensign Peak Trail, Salt Lake City, UT 84103

This is a short hike but a burner. We recommend for all people no matter the level of fitness. This hike has the perfect views to oversee the beautiful valley of Salt Lake City.

Homestead Crater

Homestead Crater

700 North Homestead Drive, Midway, UT 84049

This is much closer to the wedding site so could be perfect to stop by on your weekend stay!

City Creek Center Food/Shopping

City Creek Center Food/Shopping

50 South Main Street, Salt Lake City, UT 84101

Located right in the heart of downtown, this area is perfect for leisurely strolls and exploring the vibrant city center. If you're interested, take a walk to the nearby Mormon Temple and immerse yourself in its intriguing architecture and history.

Big Cottonwood Canyon

Big Cottonwood Canyon

Cottonwood Heights, UT 84121

This is where we spend most of our weekends Skiing/Snowboarding in the winter at Brighton and Solitude. In the summer we will occasionally do hikes up here but when summer hits all of Utah is just a giant backyard so we find ourselves everywhere.

Park City

Park City

Park City, UT

Park City is a nice attraction to stop in at during your trip. If you're in town through Monday, be sure to experience the vibrant Silly Sunday Market on Main Street. Enjoy live music, delicious food, and refreshing drinks, all while strolling down the pedestrian-only street.

Mark's Weekend Suggestion

Mark's Weekend Suggestion

SALT LAKE CITY, UT

If you're feeling overwhelmed and unsure of where to start, let me share Mark's ideal trip with you. Imagine this: arriving in Salt Lake City on a crisp Thursday morning and heading straight to Ensign Peak for a breathtaking hike with panoramic views of SLC. Afterward, refuel downtown at spots like The Gateway or City Creek with some much-needed food and beer. Next, take a scenic drive southward, perhaps up Little or Big Cottonwood Canyon for stunning vistas. Then, cruise along the Timpanogos Highway to Sundance Mountain Resort! Spend Friday exploring Sundance, indulging in arts and crafts, and perhaps a leisurely hike. Saturday means hiking or mountain biking with friends and family, followed by chilling at the ski lift bar. Cap off the day at the Owl Bar, soaking in the live music scene. Finally, Sunday calls for a visit to Park Silly Market, savoring the last moments before your departure. Cheers to an unforgettable trip!

Natalie's Weekend Suggestion

Natalie's Weekend Suggestion

Here is Natalie's ideal trip suggestions for your Labor Day weekend! Arrive Thursday midday to the SLC airport. Make your way over to downtown SLC and stop at one of the local coffee shops. Take the scenic route up Big Cottonwood canyon to Guardsman Pass and take in the mountain view. This drive will drop you off in Park City, where you can walk Main Street to do a little shopping and get a bite to eat. End your evening at Sundance Resort settling in. Friday morning, start your day off in Midway, Utah (~20 min drive from Sundance) at the Homestead Crater for a soak in the hot spring. Enjoy the rest of your day at Mark & Nat's wedding :) Saturday, sleep in following your night of dancing and celebrating, and have a nice breakfast at the resort. Wrap up your weekend by spending the day enjoying what the resort has to offer- hiking, biking, spa, craft center- maybe run into Mark & Nat. I'd recommend making the most of the holiday weekend & ending it at one of the many state parks in UT!
