How We Met

We met the good ol' fashioned way- Bumble! Our first date was more like an interview and Josh acted as if he was interviewing me for the position of a lifetime (or at least a second date). But, who can resist my wit and charm? I nailed the interview and Josh invited me to see a play with him the next night. Since then, we've seen more plays, hiked many mountains and trails, and watched beautiful sunsets together.

The Proposal

4.20.21

The day before Josh proposed to me, we had just completed a 14 mile backpacking adventure through Utah's Coyote Gulch. Let's just say I think I earned that beautiful proposal the next day. We were driving through Kanab, Utah which is home to Best Friends Animal Sanctuary. The sanctuary is an oasis not only for the animals who live there, but for the humans who get to visit the place. Gorgeous views and a wonderful, peaceful energy surrounds the reserve. Even the animal cemetery on the land, dubbed Angel's Rest, is one of the most serene and peaceful places a person can experience. Thousands of wind chimes hang in the trees and the smallest breeze releases a soft, but beautiful, song. Something Josh and I like to do on our adventures is to enjoy a great (Josh has very high standards) cup of coffee with a beautiful view. After walking through Angel's Rest, we found a bench on Angel's Overlook (an area dedicated to Best Friends volunteers) that had a gorgeous view. Josh unloaded his AeroPress and Jetboil (never leaves home without them), made us a cup of coffee, and we soaked in the gorgeous scenery. He asked if we could take a picture with the majestic backdrop and set up his phone to record instead of a photo timer. I remember him asking me to take my hideous sunglasses off (I have very low standards) because he didn't want to propose to me with that pair on my face (he really hated those sunglasses). I also remember thinking, "This is the longest photo timer ever if I have time to take off my sunglasses, put them away, and come back". Then, he got down on one knee. In the recording, you can hear me say: "Shut up!" "Are you serious?" "Are you sure?" "I hope our plane taking us home doesn't crash now" (Spoiler Alert: I also said "yes".) I was completely caught off guard and it was a very easy "yes" for me to say. He couldn't have picked a more "us" spot to pop the question. Guess I'll keep going on 14 mile hikes for him. Disclaimer: Josh was going to propose to me at the top of Angel's Landing, which has a pretty gnarly hike to reach the top. He was scared I wouldn't make it, though (fair) and the proposal at Best Friends just felt right to him and he couldn't have been more right about that. Double Disclaimer: We hiked Angel's Landing the day after the proposal with our friends Cole and Sarah Beth and I made it to the top with minimal complaint.

For all the days along the way
