Jenner Fox

and

Natalie Akers

April 5, 2025

Sisters, OR

A Version

There are many different tellings of this story, but they adhere to a similar outline: 1. Jenner and Natalie meet in a secret society at college amidst 14 other seniors, sworn to never engage in hanky panky. 2. They stay in touch as friends do. Natalie lives in Cincinnati, then works at int'l camp based in Japan/San Francisco. Jenner bops around from Austin, TX to Bend (family) to the Bay Area. He works winters on the Futaleufú River in Patagonia. 3. Natalie hears rumors that Jenner is in town (SF) and plans to join the groupies at his Lost Church show. That day, she hears singing in the backyard of her rental and pops over the fence, recognizing his voice. The two discover that Jenner's uncle's (Brian) backyard abuts Natalie's. Natalie gets serious about her groupie past time and and flies to Portland, OR. 4. Jenner invites himself to stay with Natalie in Hudson, NY for 10 days in 2018, but she manages to maintain employment. 5. Nat stops working for the sketchy Japanese summer camp and the two travel together (crashing often with their families). Jenner blindly trusts Natalie's music ability and invites her to play in his band for a year. They barely make it through. 6. The two play a show in Sisters, OR and meet a cute server at the restaurant/venue. They decide to move in together to a house in Sisters, OR along with one other stranger 1 week before the global pandemic lockdown. 7. Jenner agrees to move to Bainbridge Island, WA so Nat can pursue a Masters in Education. Jenner proposes on Third Beach near Forks, WA and Natalie thinks about it for too long. 8. Nat finishes at UWashington and the two move up to Bellingham, WA where they continue to rent a house near Nat's new job at Whatcom Community College and close to Jenner's bandmates (note: also the members of the PNW's premier Paul Simon and John Prine tribute bands). 9. In November 2024, they finally decide to get married in April with a group of 12 family witnesses by the Metolius river where they've spent many a night camping and making up bad songs.
