After Natalie saw a cute boy on Mike Hopp's Facetime, she decided to shoot her shot. While studying endlessly for finals during her masters program, Natalie thought she would try an old hobby. She broke out her two recorders from grade school and played "Hot Cross Buns" using her nose with BOTH recorders. She sent the video to her friend Lana and asked her to send it to her single friends, knowing that the cute boy on Facetime was single. Lana sent the video to Elliot and it impressed him so much that he messaged her on Facebook. From there they messaged on Facebook and FaceTimed for 4 months until he came home to visit from Hawaii, where he was stationed. Natalie and Elliot spent the entire time he was home hanging out and getting to know each other better. On January 11, 2019, knowing Elliot's visit was short-lived and he was heading back to Hawaii soon, Natalie asked Elliot the famous line of "What are we?" From there Natalie and Elliot had a long distance relationship for a year and a half. She would be spoiled enough to be able to visit Elliot four times while he lived in Hawaii.
On the first day of their vacation to Cancun, after being served one too many tequila shots, Natalie couldn't help herself and had to ask Elliot if he was proposing on this long awaited trip. Being the good secret keeper he is, Elliot misdirected Natalie and assured her he was not. Day three of the vacation, Natalie texted her friend Janet that she knew Elliot wasn't going to propose, but if he was going to, this trip would be the best time - they were in paradise, after all! Janet assured her there was no proposal and encouraged her to just enjoy the trip. Little did Natalie know, her friend was in on the scheme. While getting ready that morning, Natalie knew something was up. Her usual talkative, playful, goofball of a partner was silent (and full of nerves!). They headed to the beach to take advantage of the beautiful backdrop and grab some photos. With the snap of the camera, to Natalie's surprise, Elliot got down on one knee and asked Natalie to be his wife! Overwhelmed with tears of excitement, Natalie, of course, said YES! With the help of baby mangoes (their drink of choice on the trip), the rest of the trip was spent celebrating all of the fun to come in their lives together!
